at London College of Business and Management on 2 November, 2009

A seminar was held here to explain to media and students the impact of new immigration rules and regulations, their positive effects on students and colleges.

London College of Business and Management organised a Seminar on “Impact of new immigration rules for students-PBS Tier-4” in their Leytonstone campus, which was very well attended by students, staff and media.

Faisal Shaukat, Director of Studies-LCBM, said that all private colleges should work jointly with UKBA and other regulatory bodies to ensure that bogus colleges must not bring any question mark to the repute of genuine and law abiding colleges, such as LCBM. He said our college is making all possible efforts to maintain standards to provide a strong platform for genuine international students. Faisal Shaukat put stress on LCBM’s commitment to provide affordable quality British education, which is recognised globally. He said LCBM future aims are to build strong and long-term relationship with education partners, provide more facilities to students without compromising on quality and comply and improve standards as per guidance by UKBA and ASIC.

Sonia Dower, Deputy Director Operations-UK Border Agency, addressed the occasion and gave a very informative presentation on the impact of new rules. She emphasised that UKBA is ensuring, there must be Real Students, Studying Real Qualifications in Real Institutions. She said that UKBA is trusting Tier 4 sponsors to assess that the migrant is able to study in the UK. Sponsors have their part to play in ensuring that the system is not abused. Sonia said we continually check and monitor all student applications and colleges to ensure they meet the required standards. Since the introduction of tier-4 from 1st April 2009 there are just over 1950 institutions on the sponsors register. She said UKBA have recently undertaken a series of intelligence-led visits to Tier 4 Sponsors in order to assess their recruitment methods and record-keeping and 16 sponsors have had their licences suspended so far. She reiterated that all sponsors must fulfill their responsibilities to work with UKBA to ensure the student route works well and is free from abuse.

Maurice Dimmock, CEO Accreditation Service for International Colleges-ASIC, also addressed the seminar and appreciated the progress and growth of London College of Business and Management. He said I am very impressed with the progress of LCBM and if they continue what they are doing now, they could be a beacon of quality education for students. He emphasised that ASIC is working together with UKBA to ensure that only genuine colleges are given the accreditation to help genuine students to achieve their academic goals.

Jim Simpson, Dean of International Development, University of Gloucestershire, said in his address that University of Gloucestershire has recently developed a partnership with London College of Business and Management to offer both undergraduate and post graduate programmes.  He said we are very pleased to see the facilities provided to students by LCBM and University of Gloucestershire is looking forward to build a strong and long term relationship with LCBM.

Lyndon Jones, CEO and founder chairman- Association of Business Executives ABE, was pleased to admit that it has been a long time for him to visit a private college, and if he is present today that means there is something extremely good and positive about LCBM. He said ABE was founded 1973 and now have colleges, students and members in over 100 countries. He said at ABE we are committed to offering qualifications that are relevant, recognised and respected.

Jasim Iqbal, Director of LCBM, informed the audience about the journey of LCBM from 2001 till to-date and explained how College has grown since its inception in 2001. He informed about the College’s progress with respect to its size, facilities and number of students. He expressed plans for expanding LCBM and opening new campuses in UK as well as abroad. He also stated that LCBM is working hard to have working partnerships with other UK Universities to expand options for students. He thanked all guests, staff and students in the end who made this event possible and a success.
